week seventyfour: rainstorm pt. 2

rainstorm pt. 2

i was a victim of the fog
of the river water birds
slowly waking from a dream
early morning over her

then she was getting in the car
wet towel in her hair
i used to be the one to leave
now i can’t remember where

so the air goes sweet
and the sky goes gray
and all the edges we can see
fade away

ah mama it’s a rainstorm
on the scatter light lawn
ah mama it’s a rainstorm
we’ve been waiting on
ah mama it’s a rainstorm
on the kennebec shore
i can see it it’s a rainstorm
we’ve been waiting for

i took a hammer to the trees
i ran a line from the house
i hung a bowl to feed the birds
i let the animal out

and the money wouldn’t come
and the van wouldn’t start
i wasn’t fooling anyone
i wasn’t trying that hard

so we both went out
and we lost ourselves
then we came back home
as something else

ah mama it’s a rainstorm
on the scatter light lawn
i can see it it’s a rainstorm
we’ve been waiting on
ah mama it’s a rainstorm
on the kennebec shore
ah mama it’s a rainstorm
we’ve been waiting for
we’ve been waiting for
we’ve been waiting for

she drives up
and i come out
and we go running back with grocery bags
the water pouring down
ah mama it’s a water pouring down

ah mama it’s a rainstorm
on the scatter light lawn
ah mama it’s a rainstorm
we’ve been waiting on
ah mama it’s a rainstorm
on the kennebec shore
ah mama it’s a rainstorm
we’ve been waiting for
